Along the south coast of Iceland, you’ll find the picturesque fishing village of Vik. Just outside Vik is Reynisfjara Beach.
Reynisfjara Beach is 187km (about 115 miles) from Reykjavik and it takes around two and a half hours to drive here.
The closest major landmark is the Dyrholaey rock arch and cliffs. You can find many seabirds at Reynisfjara however it is nothing compared to the numbers here. From May to August, it is one of the best places to see puffins from land.
In general, the Icelandic coast is treacherous and should be treated with respect. That means that you shouldn’t go into the waters if you’re not sure that it’s safe.
